Trail running vs. road running

So I've never been  introduced to trail running. Thinking I'm tough and can take it, I decided to go right ahead and do a trail Marathon. The furthest I'd gone on a trail before the race was ummm, oh probably 5 miles or so  2 or 3 times. Well, race day arrives. i'm sick. i'm sore, i'm tired , im everything thats NOT good when it comes to running. So I start my journey. Such a beautiful run! First loop i did in 1hour 27 min. By this time typically in a marathon, I'm in my "zone" not thinking much about what I'm doing...just one foot in front of the other. Considering the Ups and downs and rocks and balance and various angles you strict your foot down. It turns out , I was not ever able to find the sweet little "zone". My body started giving out on me. I've felt pain, tired, cramps, blisters, and you name it in races and I just push through it. Ive never felt this way. Like I couldn't do it. My body had been through alot that week and It WAS NOT MOVING! This was, I'm so embarrassed to say but will admit, my first time i had to back down. I ended up doing the 20 miler race that day.

Finished strong on the Slip n' slide!!!

I've been really hard on myself about this all week. but I've got to except and learn from this. Some days, its just NOT your day. Be ok with that. Be grateful you can do what you did! I've gotten mentally beaten up by this race. but in the end feel I'm stronger. My cold is finally gone and Its time to rock out some serious training!!

Ended up taking 1st place still!! Oh wait and last place.....
I was the only girl :) but 1st sounds oh so sweet!!

Health tip of the day!

Remember to take small steps
Don’t set outrageous goals. You won’t lose 10 pounds in one week, but you might lose up to 2.
Over inflated goals will only serve to defeat you in the long run. Set reasonable goals and you will find yourself much more motivated throughout the year!
Feeling the triumph of completing a small goal will help you stay motivated for your larger goals!!
What's your goal today??
